It is a great pleasure to see these advancements that have taken place... science has developed leaps and bounds over the years, and we really need to thank all the minds that have worked day in and day out to reassemble what we and our ancestors have spilled. Solar and wind are the two technologies that can drag us out of the pit of warming that we have dug for ourselves. These technologies will not only help with power but also promise to cut co2 emission drastically. Hope we at least use this for utility and not for our mere gains.
I agree with order of raking given to various solar cells. In all honesty, spheroidal shape of solar cells sounds intuitive as efficiency approximately doubles with innovative design with absorption of sunlight from all possible angles for higher power-generation. Though, GaAs coated cells (as Jolly has opined above) is not a cost effective recipe, still brining a compound in use that was originally used by NASA in Mars missions is worth noticing.
