The only problem with this method is the IE7 update shows as not installed on the windows update site.
I have found another method that works without using hacks or cracks.
1.Do the IE7 update from windows site, stop before validation.
2.Change the windows product key using magical Jellybean.
I found a keygen from Bearshare that spits out valid new XP keys all night, file is named ”WinXP CD Key Changer + Windows XP-SP2 keygen.zip”, it is 183 kb in size and I guess you could use the key changer but I just used the generator in conjunction with the freeware Magical Jellybean.
3. Unplug your internet connection and press validate, leave internet connection unplugged until IE7 has completed installing, then restart per on screen instructions.
I don’t know why you have to unplug the internet but the new product key will fail validation if you are connected so somehow MS must be tracking the key change if connected.
